My Lion Concept

My Lion Concept

Artists Statement
A good works of Art is an expression/ View or idea that creates a reaction.
The Lion
Is a symbol of Big Game Safari in Africa, alongside which visitors may experience other game and the rich cultures of the continent.
A Sculpture
Is a 3 dimensional piece of art fitted in an environment and made of varied media normally viewed from a distance in totality with its environ.
The Approach
My choice of media was photography – a media that is normally viewed at close range and on 2 dimension. My approach was to be determined by the display area (very important), because at the end of the day – the final piece is still a sculpture which first must draw attention from a distance to allow for later closer observation.
Why a Frame?
– First it creates a reference point when using my media to draw attention to the photographical Art.
– Secondly, the Lion carrying frames is symbolic of the role a lion plays in our tourism i.e. it is our reference point for selling our Safaris – Big Five, with the Lion being the main animal. Then we add on culture as a bonus.
Choice of Images:
Main images may be of familiar subjects, however these stand out because elephants are hardly any longer seen in large herds, and rarely will you find Masaai in their full Morani attire dancing in spectacular scenery . These are premium images of premium locations any visitor would love to take back home! Choice of colour: In nature premium is normally associated with pureness, wealth and Boldness.

Parks of Nairobi

Arboretum forest Park, Nairobi

Arboretum forest Park, Nairobi

nairobi Arboretum Forest park, Nairobi Kenya

This is one of the recreational forest parks of Nairobi that acted as an experiment ground for trees brought into Kenya (East Africa) so that the railway line may have enough timber for it’s coal engines. Today (100+ years later) it has over 200 species both local and indigenous. A good spot for quiet time. Also a good place for bird watching. Remember to register at main gate if entering as a group, birdwatching, photographing or intending to take video clips – they have guidelines on these.
